The word on the street is that some of you – I won’t name names – have been craving fashion. I used to do these posts all the time, and lately they’ve sort of fallen to the wayside. Largely because…well, I’m obsessed with food. I have limited time, and I cook so much that I constantly have recipes backed up to share with you, so that’s the reason. But you must know – I die for fashion. Or better yet, I live for fashion. And what better time than fall to get back into the swing of things?  So, I’ve taken the time to weed out my favorite trends for fall this year. I hope you enjoy.

Let me begin by saying that I, for one, am happy that it’s not quite time to put away the lace, the brights, maxi skirts, the color red (please see the always-stunning Blake Lively to the right, in Marchesa, showing off one of my favorite looks of the collection), or the 70s – though the 60s are competing for the limelight in a big way, and I’m not arguing with that, either.

I’ve been into polka dots for a hot minute now, the bigger the better, and I’m liking the sweater dress in a maxi shape, though much of what I saw was maxi skirts with hugh, chunky knits on top – which is a look that, for me, may or may not be wearable…I haven’t yet decided. I’m a sucker for legs, whether it’s someone else’s or showing my own, so it’s no surprise that I loved the super-high slits seen pretty much everywhere. Plaid is lingering, but this time playing up on the Tartan aspect – seen many places, but the red and blue pattern done at Thakoon is one of the most memorable. Choker necklaces? A nod to the 90s, and perhaps one of the only trends from that era I’d like to see again, because this time it’s being done right.

I came across this ad the other day, and nearly died. D-I-E-D.

And yes, I am aware that this is the second week in a row I’ve posted on Gucci for Fantasy Friday. But honestly – can you blame me?

I mean, how ridiculous is this? I am also slightly biased because of its oh-so tropical background, and because I’m heading off to Naples this weekend for a relaxing little getaway, those turquoise waters are hitting me with some extra inspiration.

Oh. I just realized we haven’t discussed the shoes yet. Well, it’s probably because there’s not much not much too discuss. These boots are truly works of art, and I can see how they might be intimidating to some – but that’s where the fantasy part comes in, right? I must say, for me, the fantasy part is more about the price tag here, because I’d totally rock these. Just imagine them with a feminine little dress, or a slouchy top and a mini. Or – how sick would these be paired with the the neutrals and blushes that we’re seeing EVERYWHERE right now? (Love them, by the way.) Mixing tough and girly pieces is so relevant and so right now, and these boots take that toughness to a whole ‘nother level.

I love Project Runway, but more importantly I love Heidi and her clothes.

She wears this blue ikat-printed Gucci dress to the Project Runway fashion show during New York Fashion Week.

I LOVE this dress. This tribal trend has been around for a while but it’s definitely been heating up lately in the Spring/Summer 2010 Collections. I consider myself to be a bit picky when it comes to prints, but I’m loving this ethnic-inspired trend because it has such an exotic edge.

Bali, anyone?

Gucci is clearly all over it, and they’re doing a fantastic job. They also did this similar number in fuchsia, paired with the same amazing gladiator platforms. All of it is T*D*F.

Who What Wear’s Trend Report is where I originally saw Heidi in this dress.

If you’re not already subscribed to their daily emails, I highly recommend you get on the list. ‘Nuff said.

So what do you think, ladies? Are you on board with this global-chic trend?
