the POSHest.

In honor of her 36th birthday this past weekend, I thought I’d take the opportunity to tell you how full-on obsessed I am with Victoria Beckham.

{I’m actually a little weirded out that I haven’t told you yet}

Where do I even begin? She is literally just THE most stylish person I know. Period. (Well, I don’t know her know her, but I’d like to. I was actually talking to Daniel about this the other day and he fully agreed that she would totally be my friend – if she knew I existed, that is.) She’s all about simplicity, elegance, and perfectly-tailored clothing. She knows how to work a trend into her look and still look utterly classic – which is a rarity, these days. Not to mention she’s also the type of girl that doesn’t mind matching her shoes to her handbag every now and then. I’m into that.

I absolutely adore *everything* about her, so – let’s also discuss her hair. I love it. She pulls off anything, although I must say, I am partial to her with shorter hair rather than long. I think my favorite look is when it was a tiny bit longer than it is now, like this. There are days when I am SO.OVER. the upkeep of long hair and highlights, and I very seriously consider this super-sleek bob – but it only lasts about as long as it takes me to discuss it with Daniel, who promptly tells me there is a time for me to have hair above the shoulders – and that’s when I’m over 60.

I kid, I kid. {Well, kinda. He actually did say that – but I know deep-down that if I *really* wanted to do it, he’d support me. Right, baby?}

On another note, I’m also obsessed with Victoria because of her persona. Yes, she’s been known not to smile for the camera. And a lot of people find that obnoxious/rude/downright insolent – but I happen to like it. I watched a special on her once and she totally admitted that she does it, and it’s quite on purpose – it’s her “thing.” It’s kind of a joke in her family, she will watch herself on TV with her children and they will all be like, “There’s Mummy, what does Mummy look like?” And then do a stern face, all joking and laughing about it. I’m not sure why I like it, I guess it amuses me – and I like that she is just herself.

Take it or leave it. Love that.

{It may or may not have something to do with the fact that I’ve been told from time to time to “smile more – you have such a pretty smile” and the like – which I may or may not have found to be annoying. It’s like, sometimes you don’t feel like smiling at a strange man as you’re walking through the grocery store – and it doesn’t have to mean you’re a bitch.  Sometimes you just want to smile on your own terms, you know? I feel you, Posh.}

So – basically, it’s like this: she’s got more style, confidence, and swagger than most could ever imagine. She’s the designer of {arguably} one of the most amazing couture collections launched in years, has two beautiful children, oh – and her husband’s not too bad, either. And do we even need to mention the Spice Girls? So, yeah. I think it’s fair to say that the woman can smile whenever she feels like it, thankyouverymuch.

{This is just ridic. And the fur is faux, if you happen to care}

{Effortlessly chic}

{Show-stopper}

{Because she makes jeans and a baseball cap look like that}

{This is everything I love about her style, in a nutshell}

What do you think, lovelies? Who’s YOUR style icon?

obsessed: theory.

I’m obsessed with Theory for quite a few reasons.

Like this one.

And this one.

Especially this one.

And this one, too.

Why? Because Theory has a *serious* knack for the basics. And I tend to get kind of obsessive-compulsive with good basics. They’re the backbone of any wardrobe: they can be totally casual or dressed up with the addition of a great pair of shoes and jewelry, but most importantly they’re easily mixed and matched with every other item in your closet.

Theory’s aesthetic is always clean and modern, and the fit is to-die-for. They’re about designing basics that always look fresh – but never overly trendy. Which equals pieces you can feel comfortable investing in, because they have staying power. I literally don’t know what I would do without my Theory tanks, tees, and separates – for me they are absolute wardrobe essentials. I’m not even being dramatic – I’d be lost.

Their crisp button-downs and impeccable suits are crucial for anyone who works in an office and needs to, well, dress like it. And if you’re looking for something a bit more fun, they do that, too. For instance, right now they have a ton of cute dresses for spring. I am particularly smitten with this one. At first glance it looks like a basic polka dot print, but when you look up close the dots are a little rough around the edges. This is what I love about Theory – they take a classic print like polka dots, and totally reinvent it in a modern way. I’ve personally never been a huge fan of polka dots, but throw in an asymmetric one-shoulder, and an ikat-like spin on the dots? Yes, please.

What are YOUR favorite brands for basics? Anyone else who gets it right, every time?

fantasy friday: moroccan palace.

I know this isn’t what you’re used to seeing on Fantasy Friday.

But a girl’s got to have a place to put all of her fabulous shoes, clothes, and baubles, doesn’t she?

One of my favorite things to do is to look at all of the insanely gorgeous (and borderline obnoxious) houses that surround me here in South Florida, and dream about one day owning something – oh, maybe 10% as fabulous as a house like this. {And as this home is currently going for a cool $23 million, that takes me to a home worth about $2.3 mill. Yes, please.} The style of the home is Moroccan, which I love. I’ve realized in all my dreamy house hunting that I’m partial to either Mediterranean or Moroccan or something with an exotic twist. Yes, some of the decor could use a little modernization, but all in all, the structure of this house is perfection. I mean, just look at the pool and outdoor area. Can you even imagine daily alfresco cocktailing in a setting like that? D-I-E.

Dreaming about the future is somewhat of an escape for me, yet at the same time very real. The best part? I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen or how it’s going to end, but I know it’s going to be beautiful. One of the reasons I know this is because my fairy-tale has already begun.

{More on this later}

The funny part is I never imagined myself settling down in Florida permanently to raise a family and start a life. I always thought I’d do all of that up north. I guess I thought the north would breed better children – partly because when I went to college, all of the northern boys I met always seemed much more real and…just better (I did later fall in love with one, after all). That and the fact that I’ve known way too many subpar boys (and girls) who originated in Florida – and yes, I can say that, because I’m from here.

When I met Daniel, mind you – a New Yorker in every sense of the word – all of that changed. One of our first discussions was about where we wanted to settle down. My theory was up north, for the above said reasons, and I was fairly sure he’d agree. Well, life is full of surprises. Turns out he was done with living in the cold for most of his life, and he’d taken quite a liking to living down here. He loved playing golf year round, he wanted his sons to be able to play sports outdoors all year, he didn’t want to shovel snow, he loved being near the beach…and the list goes on. Once he started talking, I realized I didn’t have much of an argument. I couldn’t even THINK about not living within a 5 mile radius to the ocean, let alone shoveling snow – ugh. The white Christmases I had dreamed of for my children now seemed better off taking place on a ski trip in Colorado. Or perhaps in a second home in Manhattan.

{It’s funny how you can think you want something and have no idea what you’re talking about. You just have this idea in your head and you stick with it, until you’re forced to actually think it out logically.}

So, the decision and compromise was rather simple. We’d live happily ever after in South Florida (and our children would go to private school).

And with houses like this to dream of and look forward to – can you blame me?

fantasy friday: fendi + tulle.

I think I’ve died and gone to Fendi ballerina heaven.

{THERE.ARE.NO.WORDS.}

Happy Friday and Happy Easter, lovelies.

fantasy friday: lively in lanvin.

There is just something about SJP that I absolutely adore. She’s got that je ne sais quoi factor about her, and of course I am totally Team Carrie when it comes to SATC.

Oh, and everything she touches turns to fashion gold.

This dress is no exception. Yes, she takes risks when it comes to fashion (it’s what I love most about her) – but this dress is totally wearable. I love the one-shoulder, I love the draping, I love the contrast of the sparkle of the sequins over the matte yellow fabric. And just look at those gorgeous suede Charlotte Olympia pumps. Bright almost neon-yellow paired with blush pink and gold platforms? Yes, please.

You can buy it here, that is if you want to spend the $7,000+. {Click the link anyway. Just so you can see the *perfection* that is the back of the dress.}

Here it is on the Lanvin Spring 2010 runway. My vote goes to SJP; what do you think?

{And how excited are you for SATC 2? See the trailer here.}

fantasy friday: gucci helena boots.

I came across this ad the other day, and nearly died. D-I-E-D.

And yes, I am aware that this is the second week in a row I’ve posted on Gucci for Fantasy Friday. But honestly – can you blame me?

I mean, how ridiculous is this? I am also slightly biased because of its oh-so tropical background, and because I’m heading off to Naples this weekend for a relaxing little getaway, those turquoise waters are hitting me with some extra inspiration.

Oh. I just realized we haven’t discussed the shoes yet. Well, it’s probably because there’s not much not much too discuss. These boots are truly works of art, and I can see how they might be intimidating to some – but that’s where the fantasy part comes in, right? I must say, for me, the fantasy part is more about the price tag here, because I’d totally rock these. Just imagine them with a feminine little dress, or a slouchy top and a mini. Or – how sick would these be paired with the the neutrals and blushes that we’re seeing EVERYWHERE right now? (Love them, by the way.) Mixing tough and girly pieces is so relevant and so right now, and these boots take that toughness to a whole ‘nother level.

the look for less: clogs.

Anyone remember those delicious Chanel clogs I recently posted about?

I know I do. Truth be told, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them. As promised, I went on a mad hunt to find the look for less. And here is what I came up with:

‘Durann’ Clogs – Steven by Steve Madden, $149

Studded Peep Toe Clog – Stuart Weitzman, $345

‘Sassy’ High Heel Clogs – KORS by Michael Kors, $250

‘Daynty’ Clog – Steve Madden, $90

‘Charli-C’ Clog – Jeffrey Campbell, $125

I found a lot of these out there, but for me, few designers nailed this trend on the head. Most importantly – a high platform and heel height is a MUST. So, I was willing to sacrifice a closed-toe (in true clog fashion) for the right amount of height, and these 5 versions made the cut.

Right now I’m leaning toward the first pair. Yes – the studded belt draped across the shoe definitely adds to the “trendiness” factor – but guess what? Clogs are a trend in themselves, and whether I like it or not, they probably won’t be around forever. So I’m thinking the more right now, the better.

We all know I tend to be *a bit* indecisive at times, so of course I could totally use your help on this. Which ones do you like?

fantasy friday: gucci ikat.

I love Project Runway, but more importantly I love Heidi and her clothes.

She wears this blue ikat-printed Gucci dress to the Project Runway fashion show during New York Fashion Week.

I LOVE this dress. This tribal trend has been around for a while but it’s definitely been heating up lately in the Spring/Summer 2010 Collections. I consider myself to be a bit picky when it comes to prints, but I’m loving this ethnic-inspired trend because it has such an exotic edge.

Bali, anyone?

Gucci is clearly all over it, and they’re doing a fantastic job. They also did this similar number in fuchsia, paired with the same amazing gladiator platforms. All of it is T*D*F.

Who What Wear’s Trend Report is where I originally saw Heidi in this dress.

If you’re not already subscribed to their daily emails, I highly recommend you get on the list. ‘Nuff said.

So what do you think, ladies? Are you on board with this global-chic trend?

fantasy friday: chanel clogs.

Yes, clogs. You read it right.

But these aren’t your average clogs of the milkmaid/70s/rubber croc variety. These clogs have been upgraded, in a very big way. Like a six-inch big way.

They have literally stolen the show on the Chanel 2010 runways, and were also seen on Louis Vuitton. Not for the faint of heart, they’re bold and unapologetically tough – yet their sky-high height gives them serious sex appeal.

I want them. Need them. Have to have them.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the $1000+ to spend on these beautiful babies. So, I am off to find the look for less.

What do you think dolls? Love them or hate them?

fantasy friday: louboutin + lucite = heaven.

Lucite is all over the spring runways right now, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

I have been loving lucite jewelry for a while now. It definitely has a retro vibe, yet it adds something modern and crisp to any look. You can get it in all colors of the rainbow but I am partial to the clear – I love it both on its own and paired with other jewelry. Yes, it’s a trend, but it has staying power – I’ve been wearing this cuff by Tory Burch forever and I don’t plan on taking it off anytime soon.

This candy-like necklace from Michael Kors is simply delicious. Some find the golf ball-sized baubles to be a bit too much, but I would totally rock this. I am envisioning it with jeans and a simple white tee, yes please!

And these shoes…Loubies with a ribbony lucite trim?! Really?! D-I-E.
