{hi! nice to meet you}
My name is Sarah, and I’m glad you’re here.
Welcome to my little home on the internet – a place where I hope to inspire you in the kitchen and beyond.
It’s a place where you can kick back, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine after a long day. Where you can unwind and learn something new at the same time, hopefully with a few laughs in between. Please – put your feet up on my table. Life’s too short for anything less.
Here, you’ll find many of my favorite recipes, as well as entertaining ideas and tips for living an inspired life.
{about the food}
I believe food should have style. What exactly does that mean? I’m no food stylist, so don’t get it twisted.
For me, food with style is all about dishes we’re familiar with done in a modern way. It’s that layered Mexican bean dip you’ve seen too many times – made new again with a truffled black bean purée, avocado-chive salsa, goat cheese crema, and crispy fried shallots. Cocktails made with fresh herbs and infused liquor. Simple entertaining ideas focused on seasonal ingredients. It’s mac and cheese, revamped to suit today’s taste. Strawberries and champagne, in cupcake form. It’s about exploring ideas that I love, like guacamole – and finding new and exciting interpretations.
When I first started cooking, I followed and adapted recipes written by others. Now, I’m writing my own recipes. It’s a creative outlet like no other, and I dream about the day I can go to culinary school.
{feeding others}
I love to entertain because, to me, it’s the reason we cook in the first place - to share delicious experiences with the people we love. What fun would this mimosa bar be without your 7 best friends to enjoy it with?
I also believe that as cooks, we should feed people responsibly – meaning as much as I love butter and cream, I know that whole grains and vegetables are important, too. That’s part of the reason I founded The Food Matters Project.
{my cooking videos}
As a self-taught home cook, I want to show you that if I can do it, so can you … which is why I started Sassy in the Kitchen, my YouTube channel. Whether you think you don’t have the time or you’ve simply burned too many batches of cookies in your day, I want to prove to you that you’ve got what it takes to become a fabulous cook. It’s all about being fearless in the kitchen, enjoying the process, and never taking yourself too seriously.
My motto? “If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.”
{about the name}
This blog began as a quarter-life journey of self-discovery through food. That’s where the term “20something” comes in – because for me, it’s when my life truly began … when I discovered what it is that I’m passionate about, and went for it. You can read more about it here if you’d like.
And just in case you haven’t noticed, there’s a whole lot more going on here than just cupcakes, which I included in the name to represent the food part of the deal. Although … you’ll find those here, too.
