We’re doing something a little different on this fine Well-Fed Friday. There won’t be any recipe sharing to feed that belly, and you certainly won’t find any cocktail ideas to try this weekend – although, I must admit … I could probably use one right about now …
Let’s see … Where to begin? This time next week I’ll be cooking at one of my best friend’s apartments in New York City. The next day, I’ll be bringing that dish to an audition.
An audition. For a cooking competition show. On AB-freaking-C.
There. I said it.
Oh, and I should also mention – Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson are involved. NBD.
I was hoping that typing it out here would make it seem more real. Eh, not so much.
What I’m hoping for, more than that, is that by sharing with you what’s going on in my life right now, you can be inspired to go after something big. Bigger than big. Bigger than what you might think you’re even capable of.
Here’s the thing – I’m not claiming to be the greatest cook in the world, or anything remotely close to it. What I do know is that I’m more passionate about cooking than anything else. I love to cook and, more importantly, I love to share the delicious results with the people I love. You guys have seen my videos, and so you probably know that all I really want is to be able to share this experience and the joy it brings with the world.
I realize a lot of people wouldn’t be too keen on sharing this kind of information, whether they would be afraid to jinx it or maybe embarrassed that they wouldn’t be picked … but none of that matters to me.
What I want you to know and to understand is that I’ve been putting a lot of work into my blog and my videos – what with working a full-time job, a never-ending list of social obligations, etc. – and it’s paying off. One of the producers from ABC went so far as to call me on the telephone (!!!) and tell me how great she thought my videos were. (Yes, I almost threw up/had a heart attack/burst into tears on the spot.) Slowly but surely, other opportunities are starting to trickle in. Everything always seems to happen at once, doesn’t it?
The point is – I’ve been working harder than ever, and it’s paying off. People are noticing. The universe is noticing.
I talked about the power of hard work in my last Well-Fed Friday post, and today’s message of chasing your dreams is a natural progression from there. The first step is putting in the work, and the next is ridding yourself of any self-doubt or fear of failure so that you can be free to make your dream a reality.
“Success is 10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration.” —Thomas Edison
You’ve heard that before, right? I love that quote, but I have to say – I think the equation is missing {arguably} the most important force – and that, my friends, is self-confidence. Believing in yourself.
And so, off I go next week to chase my dreams. I have zero fear of failure – and do you know why? Not because I’m anywhere close to positive I’ll make the show – that’s not the case at all, believe me! I have zero fear of failure because I don’t consider any possible outcome of this situation to be a failure. Getting to this point and going to this audition is an accomplishment in itself – one that I’m both proud of and grateful for.
It’s a remarkably satisfying feeling to know that I’ve been putting my heart and soul into what I want from life. And I have to say, I’m pretty happy with where I’m standing right now – no matter where I go from here.

I am so excited for you Sarah! You are going to be incredible, just be you… and they wil fall in love.

YES I’m so excited for you! I debated going to the open call for a while but this August and September just wouldn’t be good times for me to leave work and life for two months…so I decided against it. If you have any time at all while you’re here, then let me know! I’d LOVE to see you!

This is AMAZING and I wish you the best. I have been exploring food blogs for the past months as I am planning to launch mine in Sept. Just this morning I was thinking of my goals for the blog and on the top of the list I have to inspire. If by writing about my life and passion for the culinary world I get to inspire one person I would have made it! and if this is at all an objective for you too let me tell you that you just did. Reading this post made my day and gave me more confidence to believe in me. Yes I know there are a million of food blogs out there and many many amazing ones but I need to stop fearing about that and trust that this is my time and I want to chase my dream. THANKS!! and have fun on your trip to the DR. I was born and raced there and go back as much as I can to visit family. If you need any tips let me know.
I was so excited that I replied to Erin…all the best to you too Erin..but I want to make sure Sarah knows how much she inspired me today. Thanks again!
